In the book does the author criticise the education system?

Yes Because in the book the narrator in several times repeat that the attitude of the teacher (Mr Gradgrind) is very “squared” what I mean whith this word, is a person who is regarded as dall, rigidly convencional, and out of touch whith current tends.

And the author emphasizes that whith a conversation between a teacher in the novel and a young girl called Cecilia Jupe. In this passage of the novel the profesor ask to the class if they would carpet their rooms whith the pictures of flowers, and the young girl being different from the most of his classmates ; anwered “yes” and therefore the teacher argue her and ask why she would do that, and the young girl replies.
“If you please, sir, I am very fond of flowers(…)”.And so of that the teacher told her she musn’t do that, because people dont use to put chairs above flowers, or walk among them whith heavy boots, and he commands her to do not think in anyting that doesn’t has to be whith Fact.

This shows us that the educational system at Victorian Times in the book, made children to act whith no imagination, and to be serious and only talk about fact , ando f course never, never! Do something just  for fancy.
