Second Letter "Living the 30's"

Dear Granny

In this opportunity I have really good news!

Finally my dad could find a job, of course he wont earn the same amount of money, of his last job, but it’s a great help, and more so, because of my incoming little brother.

His job consists on taking care of corn crops, my daddy told me that maybe if he does a good job, he can became a foreman. My mom is still working in her pie’s business, unfortunately not with the same success she had years ago.

When I become an adult I want to work as a teacher, at least dreaming is free.

We all miss you.
With love you grandson.

First Letter "Living the 30's"

Dear Granny

Today I am writing you, because it seems that nothing can be worst, dad is not having good luck, so we are moving to Lost Creek, now we live in some type of adobe building, is very small, dusty, and cold. But at least we have a roof, now only remains to pray for strength and patience, it seems that mom will never lose faith.

The good side of all this, is that now is easier to bring food home, my daddy is teaching me how to manipulate the shotgun, we use to hunt, but I prefer by far to fish. The neighbourhood is as poor as us, or maybe more; But the most of them are really good persons.

I hope you’re fine and grandpa too, maybe when this entire situation be just a bad remember, we can visit you both. Until then.

With Love your grandson.

In this text wea can clearly detect a non standard use of language. This is seen in the following quote: "Lounging and some blowing-of-the-gift-money" we can say that is a non standard language because the text is not respecting in te correct way the punctuation marks. In this particular text, we can also find a use of phonetical spelling, we can evidence it in the following quote: " What day you wanna hang out? " specificly in the word "wanna" because this word is reffering to "want to" and it's written like this because it is trying to imitate the oral language sound. Then is another phonetical spelling reflected in the use of capital letters to give more emphasis to an specific word in this case the word "BOOK" he (the subject) use capital letters because he want's to show us that he is very fond at reading books.

First U.S "Jetman" Will fly through Grand Canyon

The swiss aviator, engineer, and PopSci favorite whose jet-powered wing has carried him all the way up to the English Channel and Lake Geneva, is planning to fly for first time in history , through the Grand Canyon on May 6. The exact ubication of Rossy's flight is yet to be revealed, but we do know that it will take place in some spot near the western Grand Canyon, for this incredible deed Rossy flies a novel jet-powered wing of his own design that straps directly onto his back, his body serves as a kind of rudder to control the thing, and provides thrust via four small engines.Even that the engines power is significant, is not sufficent to take Rossy over de ground, so he has to climb to elevation on board of an airplane, before jumping and going airborne.

That means that the Friday 6 of  May, will be the day in which Yves Rossy will take the step to make a sea-change in all airborne career. Dont even think about missing it.

Hard Times (Chapter 1-4)

Discussion Director

In the book does the author criticise the education system?

Yes Because in the book the narrator in several times repeat that the attitude of the teacher (Mr Gradgrind) is very “squared” what I mean whith this word, is a person who is regarded as dall, rigidly convencional, and out of touch whith current tends.

And the author emphasizes that whith a conversation between a teacher in the novel and a young girl called Cecilia Jupe. In this passage of the novel the profesor ask to the class if they would carpet their rooms whith the pictures of flowers, and the young girl being different from the most of his classmates ; anwered “yes” and therefore the teacher argue her and ask why she would do that, and the young girl replies.
“If you please, sir, I am very fond of flowers(…)”.And so of that the teacher told her she musn’t do that, because people dont use to put chairs above flowers, or walk among them whith heavy boots, and he commands her to do not think in anyting that doesn’t has to be whith Fact.

This shows us that the educational system at Victorian Times in the book, made children to act whith no imagination, and to be serious and only talk about fact , ando f course never, never! Do something just  for fancy.

Postmodernism

What is Postmodernism? A question that im sure many people can not answer.

For those who dont know Postmodernism is what we got after Modernism is over, Modernism is really the world asociated with the rise of modern science, when people believed in progress, or the idea that reason will eventually be able to give us the answer to all ills, in other words a view of a world who place the faith and religion second, now  that's last century in the twenthy first century all of those modern thoughts had became old fashioned, so in fact is very difficult to define what Postmodernism is, but in certain way it represent an epoch were there is a constant searching for truths, and there is an idea that tell us that the only truth or the great truth doesn't exist.

A thing that we have to understand is that Postmodernism is all over the globe so we got many diferent persons and cultures that call themselves postmodernist, so as a result we got fragmentation because people pull in different directions, even the same person pull in different directions, maybe there is no way we can find any type of objective truth because there isn't anyone that is sort of able to stand up and say, I am the example of what Postmodernism is.
